CHEE KIAN LEE
Mr. Lee joined the firm in 2004 and is responsible for acquisition, asset management, value enhancement and realization activities. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Lee spent two years with Prudential Asset Management Asia (“PAMA”) and was responsible for evaluating and executing investment opportunities in the Southeast Asia region. Prior to PAMA, Mr. Lee spent four years with GIC Special Investments, the private equity investment arm of GIC. While at GIC Special Investments, Mr. Lee was responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, processing and closing private investments in Asia. Prior to GIC Special Investments, Mr. Lee spent three years at PricewaterhouseCoopers in its Singapore and Melbourne offices in the Corporate Recovery and Insolvency Division and Utilities Advisory Group, respectively. Mr. Lee received a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors Degree) from the University of Melbourne in 1992 and a Master of Science in Economics and Finance from the University of Warwick, England in 1995. Mr. Lee is a CFA charter-holder and is fluent in English, Cantonese and Malay.
Mr. Chantaworakit joined the firm in 2007 and is involved in acquisition, value enhancement and realization of real estate investments primarily in the Southeast Asian and Japanese markets. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Chantaworakit worked since 2001 as a Vice President in RREEF (formerly Deutsche Bank´s DB Real Estate), responsible for acquiring and managing high-yield, opportunistic real estate equity investments on behalf of RREEF in Thailand. Prior to RREEF, Mr. Chantaworakit was a Vice President of Deutsche Bank’s Financial Institutions Group based in Singapore, where he was responsible for origination and execution of M&A, equity capital markets, and restructuring transactions for financial institutions in Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia and Thailand. Mr. Chantaworakit worked as an Associate and later Vice President at the Asian Investment Banking unit of the Bankers Trust Company in Thailand and Singapore from 1995 until 1999. Mr. Chantaworakit began his career in 1988 with Schlumberger Overseas S.A. as General Field Engineer responsible for mobilization and supervision of oil and gas exploration projects, geophysical evaluation and client coverage. Mr. Chantaworakit graduated from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1988 and received his MBA with First Class Honours from Sasin Graduate Institution in Bangkok (joint Program with Wharton School and J.L. Kellogg School) in 1995. He is fluent in English and Thai.
Ms. Chee joined the firm in July 2014 with over 23 years of experience in real estate. She is the fund manager and is also responsible for the acquisition, asset management, value enhancement, realisation activities, and the operations of the Fund. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Chee worked at Aviva Investors from 2008-2014 as a Senior Vice President of Fund Management. Ms. Chee was instrumental in the formation of the Asia Pacific real estate business and was the first fund manager of Aviva’s daily traded, open-ended Asia Pacific Property Fund, which was successfully launched in 2008. From 2012-2014 she was responsible for overseeing the investment sourcing and execution of property deals cross the Asia Pacific region for both internal and external clients. Ms. Chee was a founding member of ARA Ltd from 2001-2003 and a key executive in the launch of Fortune REIT in 2003, the first cross border REIT in Singapore. She served as the Investment and Asset Manager of Fortune REIT as well as the office manager based in Hong Kong. Ms. Chee was the Head of Investment Consultancy in Chesterton Petty Hong Kong Ltd from 1999-2001 and prior to that, she was an Associate Director of Valuations in Vigers Hong Kong Ltd. Ms. Chee started her career as an Analyst in Scotts Holdings Limited (now known as The Ascott Ltd) and later managed the business development unit. Ms. Chee received an Honours Degree in a Bachelor of Science (Estate Management) from the University of Singapore in 1992. She is fluent in English and Mandarin, and speaks conversational Hainanese, Cantonese, and Thai.
Mr. Lane joined the firm in 2009 and is involved in acquisition, value enhancement and realization of real estate investments primarily in the Greater China region. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Lane worked for four years as an Asset Manager at Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund (“MSREF”) in Shanghai where he was responsible for managing approximately $500 million in real estate equity investments, including office, retail, residential, hotel, and operating company platforms. From 2004 to 2005, Mr. Lane was a Partner and co-founder of Pangu Investments, a real estate investment fund focused on China investments, as well as a Research Analyst at Cushman & Wakefield. Mr. Lane started his career at Merrill Lynch working as an Associate Financial Advisor from 2001 to 2003 for a high-net worth wealth management group, managing $500 million in investable assets. Mr. Lane graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, California with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and a Minor in Economics. He is a CFA Charterholder and fluent in English and Mandarin.
Mr. Aoki joined RECAP in 2010 as Director. Prior to joining RECAP he was a Director at Tokyo Venture Gear, providing real estate investment and M&A advisory in Japan. He was a Finance Director at Creative Renovation Group in Tokyo, which successfully led the Nippon Hotel Fund Investment Corporation to be listed at Tokyo Stock Exchange in June 2006 as a large shareholder of its asset management company, Japan Hotel REIT Advisors. Prior to Creative Renovation Group, Mr. Aoki was a Vice President at Ripplewood Lodging, the hotel investment sector at Ripplewood Holdings LLC in New York, mainly serving the turnaround of Phoenix Seagaia Resort, a large resort complex in Miyazaki Japan, after it filed a corporate rehabilitation in 2001. Prior to Ripplewood Lodging, Mr. Aoki was a corporate valuation analyst at Arthur Andersen in Tokyo after he completed post-acquisition management integration at Ingersoll-Rand when it acquired a company from Bosch in Tokyo. Before Mr. Aoki came back to Japan he was an internal auditor at Ingersoll-Rand Company in New Jersey after working as an auditor at Deloitte & Touche LLP in New York City. Mr. Aoki received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia in the United States in 1993. He holds a United States Certified Public Accountant license issued in New York State and a real estate broker license in Japan. Mr. Aoki is fluent in English and Japanese.
Mr. Hennen joined the firm in September 2013 with over 28 years of experience in real estate, including 12 years based in Asia. He is responsible for directing and managing development projects for the firm throughout the region. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Hennen led numerous high profile developments across the US, Australia and most recently in Indonesia. Mr. Hennen’s management prowess extends across various sectors of real estate while with Agung Podomoro Land, one of Indonesia’s largest developers, and includes the direct involvement and responsibility for the planning, tendering and construction of the following projects: The 570,000 sq ft Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort Hotel; the 8.5mm sq ft Central Park mixed use development complex in West Jakarta; the 2.5mm sq ft CBD Pluit mixed use development complex in North Jakarta; the Kamal Muara sport stadium that sits on 6.5 hectares of land in North Jakarta; The Peak at Sudirman, a 1.3mm sq ft luxury apartment complex in Jakarta’s CBD; the Bandung Convention Center and Hotel; and the Apartemen Eksekutif Menteng in the exclusive Menteng district of Jakarta. Mr. Hennen has partnered in several land development projects in Gold Coast, Australia as well as in San Francisco and Seattle. Substantial exposure to Agriculture and Silviculture compliment this land development background. Mr. Hennen is a trained civil engineer and started off his career as a structural designer for San Francisco-based engineers Martin, Middlebrook & Nishkian. Mr. Hennen received a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Civil Engineering and Structures with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota in 1986.
Mr. Lim joined the firm in June 2015 and performs acquisition, asset management, value enhancement and realization activities. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Lim worked at RREEF (rebranded to Deutsche Asset & Management Alternatives & Real Assets) since 2008 as a Vice President responsible for acquisition, disposition and asset management activities in China, Hong Kong and Australia. Mr. Lim was also the portfolio manager in RREEF for the Employees Provident Fund in Malaysia and successfully invested a $1.4billion mandate on behalf of the client. From 2005-2008, Mr. Lim was a Senior Consultant at Argus Global Consulting and responsible for real estate financial analysis, acquisition support, transaction audit and trainings. He worked on a secondment basis with various real estate managers and sovereign wealth funds in acquisition and disposition support and trained over 300 real estate professionals in financial modelling and investment reporting. Mr. Lim is a member of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (“CAIA”) program and graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2004 with a Bachelor in Business Administration in both Finance and Operations Management & Logistics. Mr. Lim is fluent in English, Mandarin, Bahasa, Cantonese and Taiwanese.
Ms. Zhao joined RECAP in 2011 as an Associate and has been actively involved in various acquisition, asset management and value enhancement activities since then. Prior to joining RECAP, Ms. Zhao spent four years in infrastructure investments in Asia, from being an advisor in KPMG’s Global Infrastructure and Project Advisory team to being an active member of the principal investment team of Babcock & Brown and John Laing Investments. During that period of time, she built a solid foundation in constructing cash flow models and evaluating investment returns. She was also involved in developing deal structures, preparing investment committee papers and negotiating with lenders for project financing. Ms. Zhao received her Master of Management in Hospitality degree jointly from Cornell University and Nanyang Technological University. She also graduated with a Bachelor in Accountancy (First Class Honors) degree from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2005. Ms. Zhao is a CFA charter holder and is fluent in English and Mandarin.
Mr Wu joined the firm in 2014 and performs acquisitions, asset management and realization activities. Prior to joining the firm, he was part of the Asian Solution Coordination team at Mizuho. He was responsible for industry research on Construction, Energy and Mining and identifying potential Merger and Acquisition opportunities. Prior to Mizuho, he worked at GIC Real Estate, the real estate arm of GIC, where he was involved in investment and asset management activities in India and South East Asia. He received a First in Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Engineering) from Nanyang Technological University. He is a CFA charter-holder and he is fluent in English and Mandarin.
Mr. Sabom joined the firm in Jan 2018 with over 10 years of experience in real estate. He is responsible for portfolio management, value enhancement, realization activities, and the operations of the Fund. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Sabom worked at Invesco Real Estate from 2014-2017 as the Head of Underwriting and South East Asia Acquisitions, where he was responsible for ensuring the integrity and consistency of the regional underwriting process as well as sourcing investment opportunities across Southeast Asia. From 2012-2014, he was Senior Vice President at Fine Grain Property in Singapore, where he sourced new deals and managed existing investments, the most notable of which was the ground-up development of a 300-room, S$180 million hotel. Prior to this, he worked for PM Realty Group in Houston, Texas, where he helped to establish the firm’s new investment platform. Mr. Sabom began his career in the real estate industry as an apprentice carpenter before working his way up to project manager for a developer of high-end energy efficient homes. Mr. Sabom received his Masters of Business Administration degree from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Occidental College in Los Angeles . After college, Mr. Sabom spent two years in Micronesia as a volunteer with the United States Peace Corps. He is fluent in English and conversant in Mandarin.
Based in Bangkok, Chaiwat Mahatdetkul joined SC Capital in 2014 and is involved in acquisition, asset management, value enhancement and realization of real estate investments in Southeast Asia, and particularly in Thailand. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Mahatdetkul was working since 2005 as a Director in UOB Asset Management (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (“UOBAM”), responsible for acquiring and managing properties under Thailand’s property fund structure (similar to a REIT). Prior to UOBAM, Mr. Chaiwat was the Head of Property Fund Department of Aberdeen Asset Management Co. Ltd., where he was responsible for the management of private property funds. He has also worked for KPMG Business Advisory Ltd. and Cushman & Wakefield (Thailand) Ltd. as a property advisor. Mr. Chaiwat graduated from Assumption University in Bangkok, Thailand with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1993 and received his MBA in Real Estate Finance from the University of Denver, USA. He is fluent in English and Thai.
Ms. Hwang joined the firm in May 2015. Prior to joining RECAP, Hwang Yu spent four years at Goldman Sachs, Singapore in the Asia Real Estate Investment Banking team. She was involved in all Asian real estate M&A and capital markets transactions, including some of the largest REIT IPOs in Singapore. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Ms. Hwang spent four years in DBS Bank in the M&A and Capital Markets Departments. There, she was involved in several listed company takeovers in Singapore, as well as REIT IPO transactions. Ms. Hwang started off her career as a Management Consultant at BDO Raffles. During that period of time, she was involved in SME fundraising and strategic business advisory. Ms. Hwang received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2004. She is fluent in English and Mandarin.
JING YANG LEE
Jing Yang joined RECAP in November 2012. Prior to joining RECAP, Jing Yang spent two years at APN Funds Management, serving as Analyst. He was in charge of the trading and research for the fund where he covered listed Asian real estate stocks. The fund which he worked for was nominated for best emerging manager/smaller fund in the annual AsiaHedge awards 2012 organised by Euromoney. The fund was also nominated for best long term performance (3 years) in the HFMWeek Asia Performance Awards 2012. Prior to joining APN Funds Management, Jing Yang worked at KPMG Corporate Finance, serving as Associate in the infrastructure projects and valuation departments. Jing Yang received an Honors Degree in Accountancy and Honors Degree in Business Management majoring in Finance from the Singapore Management University in 2009. Jing Yang is fluent in English, Mandarin and Hokkien.
TAN JUN KANG
Mr. Tan Jun Kang is responsible for acquisition, asset management, value enhancement and realization activities with a focus on Value-Add and Opportunistic investment strategies. Tan originally worked with SC Capital from May 2013 to February 2017 and re-joined in April 2018. Between March 2017 and March 2018, Tan was the Vice-President of the Global Real Estate platform at CreditEase Asset Management and led the formation of the co-investment platform which successfully made two office investments in Hong Kong. During his tenure in SC Capital, he successfully executed and asset-managed five transactions in the residential and commercial sectors in Australia with a total transaction value in excess of US$500 million. Prior to SC Capital, Tan spent two years at LaSalle Investment Management, serving as an Acquisition Analyst. He was responsible for deals in all real estate asset types across Southeast Asia and was part of the regional hotel specialist team for Asia Pacific. Jun Kang received an Honours Degree in Business Administration majoring in Finance from the National University of Singapore in 2010. He is also a CFA charter-holder and is fluent in English and Mandarin.
Mr. Choe joined RECAP in 2015 and focuses on asset management, value enhancement and realization activities. Prior to joining RECAP, Mr. Choe was based in Chicago, IL working for various real estate ventures including Property Markets Group, a private equity development firm. At Property Markets Group he focused on acquisitions and asset management for a distressed asset fund. Mr. Choe received his Masters Degree from Cornell University’s Baker Program in Real Estate in 2014. He also graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Indiana University, Bloomington in 2006.
Ms Hwangkuntham has joined the firm since 2007 as an Executive Assistant to the Managing Director. Prior to joining the firm, Saitong spent two years at Kasikornbank Thailand as Senior Employee in Overseas Office Management and Correspondent Relations Department (China Project). She was responsible for organizing activities to create and enhance the investment opportunities for the customers, with an aim to increase bank’s business transaction volume. Saitong received an Honors Degree in Business Administration majoring in International Business Management from Assumption University, Thailand in 2002. She also graduated from Mahidol University, Thailand in 2008 with Master of Management in Innovation in Management. She is fluent in English, Mandarin and Thai.
Mr. Mak joined the firm in March 2016 and performs acquisition, asset management, value enhancement and realization activities. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Mak worked at ARA Asset Management (Prosperity) Limited since 2010 as an Assistant Manager, Investments & Research responsible for conducting market research and feasibility studies, performing financial due diligence and analysis, and participating in financial models for potential acquisition target. He was also responsible for performing financial analysis for asset enhancement projects, thereby providing financial analysis support for budgeting rental projection and leasing strategy. Mr. Mak graduated from York University of Canada with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Economics. Mr. Mak is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and conversational in French.
Mr. Leo joined the firm in 2015 and performs acquisition, asset management and realization activities. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Leo had undertaken an internship with GIC Real Estate’s Corporate Investments and Debt teams where his responsibilities included an in-depth study of China’s hotel and office industries through analysis of the underlying assets and corporate structure of a REIT. Prior to GIC, Mr. Leo interned at both Allianz Real Estate’s Fund Selection team and CapitaMall Trust’s Investment and Asset Management team. He is a double degree holder with a Bachelors in Real Estate and Accountancy from the National University of Singapore. Mr. Leo also represented his university in the University of Southern California’s International Real Estate Case Competition, where his team placed first. He is fluent in English, Mandarin and conversational Cantonese.
Mr. Lim joined the firm in 2017 as an Associate and is involved in various asset management, value enhancement and realization activities. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Lim spent three years in Deloitte Real Estate (London) as a Senior Associate, responsible for providing real estate development consultancy as well as valuation advisory services for a number of high profile institutional clients. At Deloitte, his work included creating bespoke financial models for complex joint venture structures, multi-phase development appraisals, value optimization, strategic and master-planning, and financial viability testing. Mr. Lim received his Master of Science in International Real Estate & Planning from the University of London in 2014 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from King’s College of London in 2013. He is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
